 You might look at my photo this month and wonder who is that, where is that, or why that photo. I have no idea who the woman is, where she's going other than I was on a street in Washington, D.C. I have no idea what the building is. What caught my eye was the way the wind caught her jacket as she opened the door.
Photography captures slices of life. What catches my eye may not catch your eye. Seeing what you choose to capture is part of the fun of our photo review meetings and looking at the public Member Galleries on Zenfolio. Thank you to our members who submitted both "What Is It" and photo review pictures. We had quite a selection of "What Is It?" photos and there is a collage of some of the stumpers below and some samples from our photo review. Our congratulations to Erin Monroe who is either the most observant or the best guesser among us. She won a gift certificate from Colonial Photo & Hobby for identifying the most of our mystery photos.

SPEAKER - JOE DRIVAS
August 7, 2017

Our speaker will be Joe Drivas, a Central Florida commercial photographer, digital consultant, and educator. He has been shooting commercially for over 35 years and working digitally since 1991. Joe's high-end conceptual images have been used by a multitude of clients ranging from Apple, Bloomberg Finance, Epson, Hearst Communications, IBM, Microsoft, Toyota, advertising agencies, publishers, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare companies, industrial companies, recording and motion picture industry. Most notably, Joe's 11x53 foot mural depicting the Space Shuttle in flight is on permanent display at Kennedy Space Center Visitor's Complex. His work has been published in numerous magazines worldwide, including Digital Imaging, Shutterbug, Petersen's Photographic, The Commercial Image, Photographic Processing, and Studio Photography. You won't want to miss his presentation.

The Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum has a continually growing collection of over 45 historic warbirds from the beginnings of aviation to the present day. The VAC is dedicated to the preservation of, education about and commemoration of Warbirds from all eras and the men and women who flew, maintained and fought in them. Check out their website at https://www.valiantaircommand.com. We are getting a special group rate $10 for adults and $5 for children. Lunch after to be announced, so if you know a good place to eat in Titusville let us know.

Our subjects for August are:
Phone - One day when the clock hits 7:00, either morning or night, take a photo of something around you. It could be your morning coffee, your evening glass of wine or perhaps the view during your daily walk. This is about being spontaneous and seeing what you can see.
Macro - Photograph a texture. It could be anything: sand, grass, brick, tile, peeling paint, you name it. Once you have your texture go online and search for using textures in processing your digital photos.
General - Photograph a landscape. This is the perfect time of year for capturing interesting skies in Florida. No clouds, plan you landscape to have elements fill the sky or compose your shot to limit the amount of sky in the photo. Composition - Rule of odds. When we look at a group of objects our eyes tend to go to the center of the group. With an even number of items that area is usually blank space. With odd numbers there is more likely to be something in the center so some find odd numbered groupings much more pleasing. Experiment with different numbers of objects and see if you prefer even or odd.

City of Oviedo
Call for Photos for New Website
|
A new website is under development by the City of Oviedo and they have asked the club to take photos in Oviedo to feature in a slideshow on the home page. Possible subjects include city government buildings, city parks, and other historic buildings and structures. Photos can be color or monochrome but they should not have any HDR or photoshop "effects" applied. Minor exposure adjustments and minimal cropping will be allowed. Only current members of the Oviedo Photo Club may submit images for consideration. More detailed submission guidelines are available to members. Published photos will be credited to the Oviedo Photo Club.

In addition to selling photography equipment and hobby supplies, they also hold in-store photo classes, including Basic Digital SLR Class and How To Use Your Point & Shoot Camera. Classes are being held Fridays and Saturdays. Call them for more information and to register.
